I love sir Terry Pratchett's Discworld series but the Samual Vimes books are my favorites in the series.
Guards! Guards! was my introduction to the Disc and what an introduction it was.  I won't give anything away other than this: Guards! Guards! has it all.  A human who thinks he is a dwarf, dragons, wizards, over the top characters and a lovely story.
If you haven't read Pratchett, pick this book up.  Thank me later.
