A must read classic

Its hard to believe that this book was written in 1962 because it felt relevant in 2026. The prose is beautiful (a tad purple at times) and it really transported me into the story. The opening pages took me back to the autumns of my youth in the 80's so completely that I could swear I could smell the rain mingling with pine and wood smoke. Is the story perfect? No, but it was good enough to captivate me from start to finish. This is a book that I would recommend to anyone who enjoys a good story.
