A young woman, Jacquelyn M. Helton, died in 1971 of a rare form of cancer. Osteosarcoma (OS), or osteogenic sarcoma (OGS) (or simply, bone cancer) is a cancerous tumor in a bone. The final 18 months of her life she kept a tape recorded diary as a legacy for her young daughter.

**Inspired by this remarkable girl's story, and based closely on her diary, Universal Studios produced a stunning motion picture which will be remembered as an outstanding television event of 1973.** It received rave reviews, and the New York Times called it **"One of the Year's Best Specials."**
