Graphically, unnecessarily violent. Tragedy porn at its worst. Violent hatred for men, police, and small towns. The writing was so skillful in its giant middle finger to a “certain type of community” that it didn’t seem correct to give it a one-star.

Every single police officer on the force is a violent bully. They all not only beat women, but mock the women for their wounds afterwards. Not one bad cop. All of them.

The town is chock full of sexual predators, murderers, rapists, and purveyors of lower level assaults. Never mind the verifiable statistics that violent crime is universally lower in small towns. Not here.

The overt Christians are hypocritical murderers, seething with hostility and resentment.

The sisters in this story are damaged beyond belief. Their father, who unfailingly loves them and their murdered mother, conceals one of the murderers, the accomplice to his daughters savage, life-destroying rape.

I finished the book because I wanted to know who set up the school shooting. But there was no satisfaction in it. That horrible feeling you have after the first chapter... it will continue until the book is over.
